AIA Launches IPD Agreements

On May 15th 2008 the AIA released two new model agreements for integrated project delivery. The documents follow concepts in Integrated Project Delivery: A Guide, and provide two levels of design and construction integration. One is a transitional agreement for those less familiar with IPD; the second, a “single purpose entity”, offers a fully integrated way to deliver a project. Get more information about the IPD documents at http://aiacontractdocuments.org/ipd/.

AIA Palomar Charter Membership

Dear Architects and AIA Members,

In April of 2006 a group of us got together to strategize for our future Chapter.
The name AIA Palomar was chosen, duties were assigned and big plans were made.
One of our plans was to pledge $200.00 for ‘seed money.’ We would then consider the people who generously pledged this amount to be Charter Members of the new Chapter when it was established.

The following people became original Charter Members on that day-
Don Edson, AIA
Ken Chriss, AIA
Nasrin Barbee, AIA
John Maple, AIA
Bart Smith, AIA
Ed Edginton, AIA
Brian Church, AIA
Sjirk Zijlstra, AIA

The first board of directors of AIA Palomar has decided to extend this one time offer to anyone else interested in joining these generous people in becoming Charter Members of AIA Palomar. We will be presenting certificates and announcing the names at our July Industry Mixer.

The deadline to submit your donation of $200.00 is June 30, 2008.

Mail your check written to “AIA Palomar” for $200.00 to AIA Palomar, PO Box 1071, Fresno, CA 93714

Here is your opportunity to go down in history with us for a great future with
AIA Palomar! Thanks for considering this opportunity.

Sincerely,

Michele McLain, AIAAIA Palomar President 2007-2008

AIA National Convention in Boston

AIA Palomar Members-

Are you going to the AIA National Convention in Boston? Would you like to participate in our vote on National issues and Board Members? If you would, here is what is involved-
If you are a current Architect or Associate member of AIA Palomar, you qualify.
We get ‘accredited’ on Thursday, May 15 or Friday, May 16. It would be nice if we could do it all at once. Then we could go celebrate! We have worked hard for this honor and intend to include everyone. AIA Palomar would like to treat you for your efforts. The final vote is Saturday morning. If you can make that too, it would be great but not necessary.

Please let me know if you are going, even if you can't vote you can join AIA Palomar for a little good cheer and say hi.

For more info on what and who is up for election visit-
www.aia.org/convention and look at the Delegate Information Booklet.
It contains the bylaw amendments and candidates that will be running for office.

I look forward to seeing you in Boston.

Michele McLain, AIA
AIA Palomar President 2007-08

Encinitas City Undergrounding Workshops

if you design in Encinitas you need to attend these workshops!

The City of Encinitas

Would like to inform you with this:

NEWSLETTER & NOTICE OF WORKSHOPS

Regarding a discussion about undergrounding of utilities

Encinitas Municipal Code Section 23.36.120: Undergrounding of Existing Utility Facilities defines when undergrounding of overhead electrical, telephone, and cable are required as a condition of new development.

The goals of the workshops are to review project implementation of the existing code and identify areas of possible concern regarding equity, cost of implementation, visual impacts, and best practice alternatives. The workshops will provide an opportunity for information sharing and dialogue between interested parties and city staff that may result in suggestions and or alternatives to improve the ability to accomplish the city’s policy and goals relating to undergrounding of utilities.

All workshops will be facilitated and designed for maximum information sharing and idea generation.
